Hiya! How’s the day going for your so far? I’m excited to share some fall cleaning and decorating weekend pics with you all after a very productive weekend!
We had been planning this weekend for a while, and I’m happy to report that it was everything I hoped it would be. Saturday morning started out great with pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes made by my husband, followed by the delivery of our new oven! Ours bit the dust a couple weeks ago. It had definitely seen better days.
Then we got to work cleaning up and putting out all the fall and Halloween decorations. It was exciting to have so many places to put things, since the last time I did this was in a 1000 square foot apartment! Here are my decorated bookcases.
Saturday late afternoon/evening consisted of homemade chili and Fall snack mix (recipes coming!) and football. Our college team whooped up on our in state rival. Wooohoooo!
Then Sunday we focused on the outside. We chopped down a tree, and had our toddler dragging limbs to a pile. He absolutely loved assisting and was actually a really big help! When he went down for his nap, we tackled the dreaded FRONT YARD. We live right on the main street of our small town, and our house has been an eyesore for years, long before my husband bought it with his brother years ago. Seriously. NOTHING had been done in I don’t know how long. We dug out old metal yard ornaments, pieces of the house, the handle of a yard tool like a rake or shovel, and unearthed lots of slugs and worms. Trying to make it look good out here has just not been a priority for us, so I’m so happy we’ve finally made some good headway. We pulled out all the ugly bushes on one side of the front stairs, and got a good start on the other. We also worked on the side of the house.
Here are some “before” photos.

Here are the “after” (or in progress I should say) pics!!
Me and this house have come a long way, I must admit. Last year we didn’t put up any decorations at all despite the many boxes of cute fall and Halloween things. We had only been in our fixer-upper house about 4 months, and it seemed totally overwhelming among all the other work that needed to be done. This year, however, I feel like we are getting somewhere. There is still a ton of work to be done and I still anticipate that we won’t finish it all until we are retired, but at least things are looking a lot better!
Later, when we went out to run errands, we happened upon a local farm set up on the side of the road in a big way. They had tons of pumpkins (all varieties) and mums. We racked up and went home to decorate.
I even decorated the side entrance. My basil plant is the only herb to survive through the whole summer! Wonder how long it will last?
After a hard weekend of work, we rewarded ourselves with our first Halloween movie of the season, Nightmare Before Christmas! Riker loved it!
So hopefully we can get back out in the yard soon and do more work!
Any suggestions for evergreen bushes to fill in the front of our house?
Do you love yard work or dread it?
